293801 2004-11-19 04:27:00 Greetings,

Im after some people who've been using IRC for a while and know all the little tips/tricks of the trade... I want a few people if possible to test my server before I go openly publishing it.

Just to make sure that things like self-op'ing are blocked... Im still learning about K-Lines amongst other things.

Any hands up?

Cheers

293802 2004-11-19 04:37:00 I've been using IRC for over 5 yrs on the Austnet server. BUT different servers have different commands. The commands arent all the same for each and every server.

BUT most servers DO give u commands/templates, on how to use them.

And umm usually u cant self-op without being added to the channels database (for ops). BUT you can make your own channel, once you register your own nick, so noone else can use it.

293803 2004-11-19 04:39:00 Yes, but there are some settings that will allow anybody to self-op in any channel etc, Im just wanting to make sure its locked-down enough before I go spreading the address to widely.....

Im using IRCd-Hybrid.

293804 2004-11-19 04:43:00 Not that I know of on the servers I've been to . And not with Mirc, which I use you cant op when u feel like it .

I know you can takeover a channel, but this is pretty rare now .

Which settings exactly are you talking about .

293805 2004-11-19 04:52:00 That's just it, Im not 'Guru' on IRC and its usage. Ive got a mate who's gonna try and pull my server apart later on today....

Channel Takeover? You know how to do this?

I dont... That's the sorta thing I want to try and test.....

Im Googl'ing but Im at work and cant focus 100% on it :-/

293806 2004-11-19 05:00:00 lol well most servers, like Austnet use bots, like chanop/nickop/loveop/noteop on the Austnet server for example), which automates most things.

If you' havent been added to a channel, without an actual op adding you, it'll tell u that you're not an op, so wont op you at all. Even if u tried.

ie: In Austnet, the commands are like this

/msg chanop help - this would give u a list of chanop commands u can use on this server.

/msg noteop help - same as above. Lets u send notes to a nick, or to ops in a channel, so all get the message/note at the same time, if theyre online on the server.

/msg loveop help - Gives u all the different options, for this command

/msg nickop help - same as above.

I havent done a channel takeover myself, BUT i know ppl who have.
