293796 2004-11-19 04:06:00 I have an old-ish soundcard built into my motherboard with microphone, line in and speaker inputs, and I want to rip some of my older casettes and LPs to MP3 on my computer. My stereo doesn't have a line out, which could pose a problem, but theoretically you should be able to use some sort of adaptor from the headphone jack of the stereo to the microphone or line in inputs of my computer to get the analog audio signal into the computer. Three questions:
Do these cables/devices exist? Are there any other alternative cables/devices that would work? How much do these cables/devices cost?

As for the ripping part, I think I could work out what to do there. :)
Thanks, brazzin.

293797 2004-11-19 04:19:00 The microphone input is mono, and would probably overload and distort, anyway. The line input should be OK.

Jaycar, DSE, or other audio/computer/electronics shops would have a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug to 3.5 mm stereo jack plug cable. Prices vary from reasonable to outrageous. :D

Jaycars have them as low as $1 but that's an unshielded cable so not really recommended.

293798 2004-11-19 04:24:00 hmm... sounds like it could be worth it... does Jaycars have a website? I live in the west coast... not so much as a 100% electric store here.

Actually on second thought 100% could well stock something like that anyway.

293799 2004-11-19 04:33:00 Jaycars (http://www.jaycar.co.nz/) have suitable cables: WA7007, WA7008, WA7009. Prices don't look bad. ;-) Graham L (2)
293800 2004-11-19 04:53:00 ah. jaycar.co.nz, not jaycars.co.nz. That makes sense. Sort of. bRaZZiN (2228)
