| 293772 | 2004-11-20 01:47:00 | mr_rix: It is not a good idea to advise people to break the restrictions on school, university, or polytech, or work computers . The networks are there for "work" . The restrictions are there so people can do their work, without sabotage by idiots . Anyone who tries to get around the security restrictions is likely to lose their access to the institution's computers . This can be a problem if some of a course depends on computer access . Even schools have security logs . "It's only a browser, and won't do any harm" isn't an excuse . It's an unauthorised change to the software . If someone needs software on the system, they can usually ask the administrators . That is the only sensible thing to do . System adminstrators will usually respond favourably to reasonable requests . They usually respond extremely unfavourably to unauthorised changes, or even attempts at changes . The first response is usually a disabled account . |
