293900 2004-11-19 07:35:00 i recently purchased a motherboard (P4VXAD), and a cpu (P4 Celeron 1.7ghz)
The websites for the two products are as follows:
Motherboard: www.ecs.com.tw
CPU: www.intel.com

The problem i have is that the motherboard only supports my processor, after the bios has been updated to version 1.2fr (see BIOS page on mobo website), which im assuming it hasnt been. (please note i bought it 2nd hand)

Because the CPU isn't supported, i cant turn my computer on, and therefore i cant update my bios, to make my CPU supported.

Is there anyway to update the bios without having to turn the computer on?

Please note two things:
I am only assuming that this is the problem, if you think it may be something else, please reply.
I do have another computer at my house, if that helps, however it is an AMD system.

Thanks in advance for all replys, and i hope this all makes sense.

293901 2004-11-19 07:49:00 If your M/B supports the CPU then the computer should start without the bios update. Download the update on your other computer and save it to a floppy disk. Put the disk into the new computer and hit the start button. That should do the job.

Just as long as the BIOS update is for the mobo, it SHOULD work, if u update to the 1.3b version BIOS update. The 1.3b update would be a newer version of the 1.2fr BIOS.

I would just d/l the 1.3b BIOS and the flash utility, make a system disk and chuck these 2 on it. Then boot from floppy and flash the BIOS.

The version of the BIOS u have NOW should appear when u boot Windows (on the post screen).
