| 294353 | 2004-11-20 13:09:00 | Hi. Can anyone advise what the programme "Stat" is that appears in the task manager? Using msconfig, I can find the path "C:/Windows/System/Services/stat.exe" I'm running Win 98 and everytime at startup the Internet dialup dialog box appears. by unchecking this "stat.exe" it no longer brings the dialup box at startup. Also have Zone Alarm, and this warns of an outgoing connection from "Stat.exe" Is this a worm or other malicious app that can be removed? Thanks |

| 294355 | 2004-11-20 13:22:00 | It sounds like spyware or a dialer of some sort. I suggest running Adaware and/or Spybot to check and remove it. | Greg S (201) | ||
| 294356 | 2004-11-20 18:22:00 | It is a trojan backdoor program and is a nasty. Navigate to the "run" key (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ru n\) highlight the entry for stat.exe and delete it. Reboot machine and navigate to C:/Windows/System/Services/stat.exe and delete the file. It is fixed. |
