2004-11-20 02:06:00 | dear friends, Upgraded a NEC (Packard Bell Easynote VX) notebook for my daughter from Windows ME to XP. Then extremely slow and I looked with Everest (what a great program!!) and it showed that it had 64 MB on board only !! Now I of course want to upgrade the memory (SDR SDRAM). Question: how far can I upgrade? Everest says: maximum memory module size 128 MB. But it also says that there 2 memory module slots. Now, does that mean that I can buy 128 plus 128 ? Or does it mean only 64 plus 64 ?? I am confused and do not want to buy expensive modules (twice a 128 MB), if the add on of just one 64 MB may do the same job. Fear though that it will still be slow a sugar-water on 128 MB. Please help Cheers Johan

2004-11-20 02:09:00 | You will need to buy two 128MB models unforunately to get 256MB RAM. The RAM should be SO-DIMM? but I am unsure about the pins etc...

2004-11-20 02:13:00 | Laptop SDRAM... Your probably looking at around $200 Make sure the memory speed/frequency is correct - you should be able to get this info from Everest.

2004-11-20 02:14:00 | XP will proabably still be pretty slow even with 256MB - this will depend on the cpu and memory speed... | HadO (796) | |
2004-11-20 02:21:00 | Google gives some help. It seems that you can use a maximum of 256MB in the VX. One retailer says this, but also says there's only one slot, and they sell a 256MB stick. :D "easynote vx sodimm" to Google will get a couple of links to Packard Bell's presumably authoritative advice on upgrading memory. ;-)
