294088 2004-11-19 23:25:00 Hey guys, I was planning to un-install one of my programs (WinRAR) as the trial period was over and I was getting annoyed with the registration message.

So I went to add/remove programs in the Control Panel and scrolled down to un-install WinRAR... to my surprise the button which says Change/Remove (I think that's what it says) is no longer on any of the programs that I have installed.

You can have a look here (sal.neoburn.net) at what the screen shows.

As a result I cannot un-install programs... unless they have their own un-install command in their program group.

Does anyone have any advice as to what the problem and more impotantly is there a solution?

cheers

294089 2004-11-19 23:32:00 I've just had another look and it seems there are quite a few of my programs not showing up in the Add/Remove section of the Control Panel.

Halo, Winzip, Power DVD, Adaware, Spybot, Mozilla (not that I want to remove Mozilla) ULEAD Video Studio, Winamp, Apple Quick time, WS_FTP Pro etc the list goes on?

Maybe it's time for a fresh install of XP.... or maybe I should install a Linux distro?

Decisions decisions.... so many distros and not enuff time to try them all.

cheers

294091 2004-11-20 08:54:00 WinXP I assume? Try System File Checker or a reg cleaner .

For System File Checker, Start Run and type: sfc /scannow and have your windows CD ready, but have a look at this ( . updatexp . com/scannow-sfc . html" target="_blank">www . updatexp . com) first to avoid changing files you don't want to .

294092 2004-11-20 09:02:00 If you have a tweaking program (TweakUI or Tweaking Toolbox, for example) installed, check to see if there is an option, probably under Control Panel options, to Hide Change/Remove button. If so, ensure that that option is unchecked. Thomas (1820)
