| 294005 | 2004-11-19 20:47:00 | Ooops I broke it...... :8} My work is changing over from telecon ADSL to a telstra ADSL connection, and i got the job of setting it up. The only major problem seemed to be that the external ADSL modem required a password that no-one actually knew before it could be configured. So i talked them into getting a new ADSL modem. First attempt was with an internal card, but that proved a bad idea as the server, which runs on shrike, didn't like the card at all, and ignored it furiously. So i put the network card back, discovered that eth0 and eth1 had now effectively swapped, but we went back to the old ADSL modem, on the telecon ADSL line, and traded the card in on an external ADSL modem which i could set up for telstras (clearnets) account. This is where the fun starts. So i plugged the ADSL modem into eth0, logged into it 10.x.x.x via my laptop, (which ultimately connected back to eth1), and got the server connected to clearnet really quickly. (Quick is the key word here) theres just one problem.. While internet access is really fast for the server, it fails to be available for the rest of the network. Allthough the rest of the network, which hangs of eth1, can access the shared files on server and such like, and can even access 10.x.x.x, which is the ADSL modem connected to eth0. I suppose what i'm looking for here is where's the button to turn internet connection sharing back on????? :8} Chris |

| 294006 | 2004-11-19 20:57:00 | You'll be wanting to use iptable to forward all packets between networks.... I'm going to have a bit of a Google, but now that you know its iptables, give that a try.... ;-) Chill. |

| 294009 | 2004-11-19 22:07:00 | Unfortunately i am not able to answer all questions, as i am not at work, nor will i be till Monday. (i have a life, not sure how that happened, but it does get in the way sometimes.) Anyways: > Is Mr Shrike running as a DHCP server? Yip, Mr Shrike is the networks DHCP server >If you sit down in front of one of the pc's and enter ipconfig in a dos session, is the gateway, Mr Shrike? I can only assume it is. On Monday, i shall check! :-) Chris |
