2004-11-21 07:45:00 | Do you have Zone Alarm or another software firewall running on your PC? Do they have some kind of email scanning enabled? Cos the problems you are describing are exactly the same as mine as detailed in my earlier thread pressf1.pcworld.co.nz I'm running AVG7 free happily with my older version of ZoneAlarm 4.5.

2004-11-21 07:51:00 | I have no firewall. I also think AVG 7.0 causes too many problems with Email - the forum on their site, supports this. A lot of users are having troubles. Bye

2004-11-21 07:57:00 | As far as I have read on various forums and even in this forum, the problem with the next AVG7 version is due to conflicting mail scanning. Eg Norton security scanning the email as well as AVG. Zone Alarm mail safe scanning the email as well as AVG. You get what I mean? I'm not here to debate which is the best AV software. I'm just trying to see if I can pinpoint the problem and hopefully give someone a solution to their problem.

2004-11-21 08:04:00 | Well, AVG new runs ok here, but I am also using Zone Alarm old (4.5); maybe that is a clue to troubles others have. I don't have SP2 installed, and that could be one more nest of vipers avoided. R2

2004-11-21 08:05:00 | BTW - took me a while to find this but this was the page I was referring to www.grisoft.cz Attention: Incorrect manipulation of you e-mail client settings could cause the E-mail client to stop sending and receiving e-mails. Please follow the instructions exactly as shown. While configuring your e-mail client, please use real names of POP3/SMTP servers as they are currently set in your e-mail client. Please choose the e-mail client you use and follow instructions: The guide for Incredimail is at www.grisoft.cz Good luck.

2004-11-21 08:42:00 | I've got Zone Alarm 4.5 too. But I have just deteted AVG (bummer) and have been able to read my emails. Yaaaayyyy. At the moment I have installed Avtivir and it is scanning my PC. So I will see how it goes, as I downloaded it onto my old computer the other day, and it played havoc!! Another Deleted thing. Thank goodness I have Norton. Did anyone else have the problem of that damn box on the new AVG popping up every half a minute re: the e-mail???? | Fiwi (6429) | |
2004-11-21 08:48:00 | Fiwi. Did you not read my earlier post? I have EXACTLY the same problem as you and I resolved it by turning my Zone Alarm 4.5 off. There is a thread at the Grisoft forum that is over 5 or 6 pages long discussing this problem.
