2004-11-20 05:47:00 | Thewiz, Unfortunately shared folders are not supported Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.x or DOS guest operating systems. If you have VMware Tools installed on the guest operating system you can use drag and drop to move files easily between the host and guest system. www.vmware.com www.vmware.com You can also setup sharing using a virtual network; to add a new virtual Ethernet adapter: 1. Be sure the virtual machine to which you want to add the adapter is powered off. 2. Open the virtual machine settings editor (VM > Settings). 3. Click Add. 4. The Add Hardware Wizard starts. Select Network Adapter. Click Next. 5. Select the network type you want to use Bridged, NAT, Host-only or Custom. 7. Click Finish to add the new adapter. Hope this helps, Tristan

2004-11-20 07:18:00 | That did work now what about Windows 3.11 as the Guest it has no vmware tools i have got the NIC installed ok but i cant access the Host-Only Network | thewhiz (4002) | |
2004-11-20 08:24:00 | Glad it worked. Haven't worked with Win 3.11 for quite while now but we'll see what we can do. The virtual machine uses Advanced Micro Devices PCNET Family (NDIS2/NDIS3) Ethernet drivers. You can get the NDIS3 PCI driver for Windows 3.11 from www.amd.com and DOS NDIS2 driver for MSLANMAN from www.amd.com Extract them to a floppy (using WinZip or WinRAR), and then install them through Network Setup | Drivers | Add Adapter. That's should get the Microsoft network running but you may also need to install a TCP/IP stack to get Internet access (www.scrounge.org) Extract it to a floppy and install it through Network Setup | Drivers | Add Protocol. Once that's installed check that you can ping the host. Tristan

2004-11-20 09:02:00 | When i type ping [the ip of the host] i get bad command or file name | thewhiz (4002) | |
2004-11-20 09:45:00 | Sounds like the ping command can't be found. Check that the ping.exe exists in the DOS directory and that the path is set to the DOS directory (i.e. path = c:\dos). If you can't find the command, try copying it from one of the other OS's. Also see if you can "ping localhost". This will see if the computer is able to send information out and receive the information back. It does not send information over a network however may allow you to see if the card is being seen

2004-11-20 19:28:00 | Another good place to try for help is the VMware community forums (www.vmware.com ). They have lots of experts that use this software everyday. | Tristan Speak (465) | |
