294093 2004-11-19 23:45:00 I have been using Firefox very successfully for quite a while and had no problems until yesterday. Yesterday and today whenever I try to access PressF1, either initially, or when the page has loaded, the screen freezes consistently.

It happens sometimes when I hit the tag or just after the site shows and I try to use the scroll bar. It has happened seven times in a row and I have to reboot every time. Control, Alt, Delete produces no reaction.

There is no problem getting other sites and nothing freezes - BBC, The Age, The Scotsman, Xtra are fine. The only other problem site is PC World which also freezes.

I have updated AVG fully (as I do every day !) and run it. I have run the deepest scan of Ad-Aware and have also run Spybot. My Zone Alarm is up and running. Everything seems Ok. Though have just noticed that something called

Am writing this using Internet Explorer but just want to get back to using Firefox.

Windows ME is my operating system.

294094 2004-11-20 01:03:00 When saw Merlin-nz post about AVG I updated AVG from version 6.0.799 to 7.0.289. Have run that but no viruses found.

Still a mystery !

294095 2004-11-20 03:07:00 I remember some sites locking up the PC (COMPLETELY locking up) with IE but have never had such an experience with Firefox. Do you have version 1.0?

294096 2004-11-20 03:13:00 Maybe it's the ads. alphazulusixeightniner (185)

That is what I am thinking.

Misty, do you have the adverts displaying? What version of Firefox are you running? If you haven't got the latest version it would pay to update.

294098 2004-11-20 03:39:00 I put a rule in my firewall to stop PressF1 accessing ad.doubleclick.net, and whilst it did not freeze the screen, it slowed things up to almost a standstill so I had to remove it. Do you have anything running that could be stopping access to whatever ad.doubleclick.net happens to be? John H (8)
294099 2004-11-20 03:53:00 I have the same thing happening quite regularly, but again, only this site. Only way out is to press the reset button. I use an Adblocker, Adsubtract Pro - can't stand this site if I turn it off.

294100 2004-11-20 04:20:00 I just checked and have Firefox 0.10.1

Just as well I checked as I was going to say that I did not yet have version 1. Can't remember downloading it - which is peculiar. Early stages of dementia ? ?:|

My version is showing the ads. How do I block them please ?

Thanks for your help so far folks. Using IE is seeping away at what strength I have !

294102 2004-11-20 04:31:00 If it is the ads then why do I not have the same problem with IE, because the ads show there too ?
