294055 2004-11-19 23:09:00 Grrr... I sacrificed a free Xmas drinks function to sit by my PC for an auction on Trademe finishing at 10.30pm last night, only to lose by not accepting an offer quickly enough.

The auction in question was a P4 3.4 EE (478 pin) which had not been used and was an unwanted price.

Reserve was $1,000. I was highest bidder at $650, and while I went to make a drink, it was offered and accepted for $750.

I'm not a happy camper. :(

294056 2004-11-20 01:21:00 Don't worry, by the end of the year it will probably be superseded and $100 retail. :D Graham L (2)
294057 2004-11-20 01:29:00 P4 EE are rubbish anyway, they overheat too much or something agent_24 (4330)
294058 2004-11-20 02:16:00 Yeah - Intel were actually thinking of not mass producing them because of the heat issues. HadO (796)
294059 2004-11-20 02:40:00 Sorry, but in auctions, thems the breaks. There are always tears before bedtime in any auction.

I always put my best price then if I miss out, I don't care because I could probably not have ~ either afforded it, or it wasn't worth what it finally went for!

You will probably end up with something better for less money.

You're thinking of the Prescott... I'm talking about the Extreme Edition which are a completely diff kettle of fish.

They still retail for around $1800 and are mad overclockers.

Well it is going to be only a 2nd PC, so I'll just get an old Northwood or something instead for my spare mobo.

294062 2004-11-20 02:54:00 How do they compare to the XP 3400 64-bit?

It's just that the above can be bought new for $649, which is a lot cheaper than the ?comparable? Intel equivalent.

Sure, but I already have a top 875P chipset motherboard and ram which is spare... I'm only looking for a CPU to run it on now.

294064 2004-11-20 04:20:00 Pick up a cheap Celeron D, they perform alot better than the older Celerons, still the bain of mankind but not as bad as before. They overclock pretty well aswell.

Me sits and waits for george to start waffling about his celeron
