| 294967 | 2004-11-22 08:08:00 | howdy, umm im having a few modem problems at the moment, i have a 56k dial up modem. sometimes, but at the moment very often, i am getting disconnected and given a message, the device has reported an error, even after a reset this message still comes up occasionally, and like just before i got disconnected and given this message again. what can i do? i dont have any idea on what brand/model my modem is but its a pci one, ive got xp sp1 and on xtra dial up flat rate. TIA |

Are > there any yellow exclamation marks beside your modem? no there is no yellow marks beside the modem but there are yellow marks next to the ethernet net controller and SM Bus controller but i know what those are, i just havent had time to download those drivers:p but i hope those arnt affect the modem oh and no im not running my pc on a network |

| 294970 | 2004-11-22 08:57:00 | That error can be caused by having the wrong modem inf file. Perhaps you should figure out what modem you have :-) and check that you have the right driver for it. | PaulD (232) | ||
| 294971 | 2004-11-22 09:29:00 | If it was working fine before, just to be sure, plug a phone into the socket you usually use for your modem and have a listen to the dial tone to make sure theres no extraneous noise in the background, crackling, whatever . Obvious, I know, but it's a good starting point in a process of elimination . It's caught me out more than once . Catweazle |
