294814 2004-11-22 02:57:00 My new motherboard is installed and running well.
But every boot XP finds new hardware ans wants to download software and then can't find any, for "Ethernet Controller"
What is an EC and what software does it need?

294815 2004-11-22 02:59:00 Does the motherboard have an onboard network card?

The motherboard should have come with a driver CD that should autorun and list all the drivers for the motherboard that need to be installed.

294816 2004-11-22 03:09:00 If you haven't got a network, just disable the Ethernet controller.

If you had a network, you wouldn't have been asking, you would have known. ;-)

294819 2004-11-22 03:29:00 The term "Ethernet Controller" is simply another name for LAN (Local Area Network). Another name for basically the same this is NIC or Network Interface Card. Spout (6433)
294820 2004-11-22 03:47:00 As Graham has said, disable then. If you pop open your BIOS it'll be listed in there somwhere, possibly under advanced chipset features or sime such. It may be termed MAC interface, LAN, NIC, network or ethernet. Windows should stop trying to find it once you've done that.

294821 2004-11-22 03:50:00 hmm....I would go against the advice offered so far and install it properly rather then disable it,next time it asks for drivers pop your motherboard cd in the drive and point the wizard in that direction.

Does your new motherboard have dual lan by any chance?

294822 2004-11-22 07:31:00 It's just got the one hole. Unfortunately I can't insert the disk. It doesn't work. I've asked for a new one.

294823 2004-11-22 09:31:00 Perfect time then to grab the most up to date drivers available for your motherboard, from the manufactures site.

If the cd didn't work did you manage to load on any of the drivers?

In the past when i have had driver disc's that wouldn't run the installion wizard i have always managed to load them on the old fashioned way,by pointing the windows install at the cd for each specific item.
