2004-11-21 20:13:00 | Hi Every month my parents think about getting jet stream and every month they say no , yet the free modem deal for this month has got them thinking. We have a network at home yet the free modem is not a router so you will not be able to share it through there. I was wondering if you can share this like you share 56Kb with just a normal network ( ie going through a switch ) , or do you have to have a router to share jet stream Thanks

I also understand that you can pay something like an additional $60.00 to Telecom for a 4-port ADSL router. |

2004-11-21 21:53:00 | Theoretically you can share it through a switch, just over a LAN with the computer which the modem is connected to. However, the best option would be to get a router with a built-in switch, as it would be easier to set up, and have better security. | somebody (208) | |
2004-11-21 22:41:00 | It looks like the D-Link 302G modem, that Telecom/Xtra bundle with the self install kit, is in fact a router with, DHCP, NAT, bridging and, routing if required. Therefore all is needed is a switch to connect to your LAN or use ICS with 2 NIC's on the gateway computer. I'd check with Telecom/Xtra if the "modem" will indeed work in this manner on their ADSL system. Murray P

2004-11-21 23:27:00 | im going to check with telecom to see if you can pay a bit more money on their free modem deal and get the router less desk clutter having one box instead of two | noone (22) | |
2004-11-22 08:42:00 | I've contacted Telecom and the confirmed that you can have the 4-port ADSL router provided you pay for the additional costs. | bk T (215) | |

2004-11-22 10:04:00 | You'll love the difference. But in no time you'll wonder how you ever survived with 56K. I would pay the $60 extra for a router. Cheers George
