It was new then. What is your experience now after using it for a while? I'd be glad to have your opinion of this drive. |

It hasn't had a good workout yet, used mainly so far for burning a couple of DVD's and for watching DVD's. It has a nice quiet operation and the tray glides nicely in/out. I know Murray P has gotten one too now, so he might have some input on this as well. I can't comment on the bundled software that came with it as I use Linux and do my burning with K3b (a Nero clone). |

I bought an OEM drive that came with NIT CD/DVD Make Gold, which seems to be ok but my pref would still be Nero. I think the retail come with NTI and Nero Express plus a couple of other DVD/Divx tools. I went for the NEC because it covered a lot of bases and did them pretty well (some very), that is, it's a very good all round drive without being tops in everything (which one is?). I also liked the idea that NEC are proactive with thier firmware upgrades, with regular fixes and functionality upgrades available. Some of the other drives that use the same chips (NEC chips BTW, like the Pioneer, and I think the Sony, for eg), didn't have the same range of functions simply because the manufacturers/vendors are unwilling to release/compile new firmware or enable all the chips capabilities in the first place. Something it does not support is Mount Rainier mode/format, it's not causing me any bother, as yet, a firmware upgrade may add it some time in the future? Whether my decision is right, time will tell. Jen, I got Kb3 working, you and Chill are right, easy as. I can see becoming my CD/DVD software of choice. Murray P |
