295300 2004-11-23 04:55:00 Have just transferred DNS and email accounts from Xtra to Freeparking (who use Linux server). I run Windows XP. Today following transfer of domain, removal of DNS records and email accounts I find that I am unable to download email if Nortons 'scan incoming and sent' email options are checked. If this option remains unchecked, all email is received ok into Outlook, however if it is checked, whilst I can send Outlook goes through the process of receiving the emails, but does not download and I receive an error message. I have spent some time on Symantec site, without success ... any feedback appreciated to resolve. espv (5292)
295301 2004-11-23 05:39:00 Sounds similar to what I got once, with Norton Internet Security 2003's firewall. Not the AV itself.

I found that if I entered Ihugs's primary and secondary ip address under my LAN icon, the firewall used to block BOTH ip addresses. Even if I entered the DNS ips into the firewall, NIS's globe would flash, and tell me the DNS server's ip's were accessing my system, and slow emails down/ give me timeouts.

BUT if I just enter ip 192.168.0.1 as the preferred ip address under my LAN properties ONLY, everything was fine. My emails wouldnt time out, or get any errors.

295302 2004-11-23 05:59:00 Norton Antivirus will not tollerate the firewall scanning the email at the same time.
AVG does not have this problem.

295303 2004-11-23 06:08:00 The firewall in nortons well NIS 2003 doesnt scan while the AV is scanning .

It's coz the useless DNS server ips Ihug use, are pretty much hopeless, if u use Nortons firewall, well NIS 2003 anyway .

And enter Ihug's DNS server ip's under a LAN icon's properties .

They conflict . They DONT like each other! If u dont enter the DNS server ips for Ihug, then u wont have any probs .

295304 2004-11-23 08:56:00 I'm only using Norton's Anti-Virus - not Internet Security/Firewall. By a process of elimination I've found that the XP firewall, doesn't affect it, NAV Auto Protect is ok, just the email scanning and when checked it is only the email I'm trying to receive into Outlook - it is stopped .... thanks for your feedback so far. espv (5292)
295305 2004-11-23 09:03:00 The error message would be helpful

Search the MS knowledgebase first before cross-referencing to Symantec .

There are known issues with pop accounts, Norton email scanning, Outlook and Outlook Express
