| 295138 | 2004-11-22 21:52:00 | Hi Guys This is driving me nuts. New PC (mine) and every link I click opens a new instance of IE6. That means I end up with half gigabillion windows open and I don't want them. Used to work fine on my old PC, would do it in the last active IE6 window, which I managed perfectly happily and deliberately had a "short attention span" window that I could use while keeping other things open that I cared about. It's mostly links from Outlook 2003, but does same thing from Outlook Express and when I control-click a link in a word document. It's got to be a setting in Explorer, but damned if I can find it. I've checked PressF1 and most problems seem to surround links not working. Same thing on microsoft.com. I am hoping there is an utterly obvious solution someone can point me to. Cheers robo. |

AFAIK there are certain toolbars which you can use with IE (Yes, we'll forgive you) that will prevent it opening a million and one windows, rather "re-use" the one that last had window focus. I dont have IE at my place so I cant help much more sorry Chill. |

| 295140 | 2004-11-22 22:12:00 | Try opening up IE, then go tools-internet options-advanced and make sure "reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is ticked. | Pheonix (280) | ||
| 295141 | 2004-11-22 23:33:00 | If you have a look in Folder Options under the File Types tab, you can turn off DDE for HTML files that stops them opening in a new window - look it up on the MS site. ;) Or use Firefox! :p |

| 295142 | 2004-11-22 23:55:00 | This was already checked. (gee, I've had problems replying to this) But using the name of the button, I searched and found this: [Start] [Run] [Regedit] Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below. Data Type: DWORD Value // Value Name: AllowWindowReuse Setting for Value Data: [0 = Do Not Reuse Window / 1 = Reuse Window] Exit Registry and Reboot Am trying now. robo. |

| 295146 | 2005-04-13 16:08:00 | Hi, This is a problem I have been asked to solve. Turning off the DDE didn't help but the following did: Close IE and Outlook 2003, Open "My computer"->"Tools"-> "Folder Options..." Select the "File Types" tab, Scroll to "HTML" click on "Advanced" Select "Open" from the list of actions, then press "Edit..." In there you will see "WWW_OpenURLNewWindow" in the use DDE section Change this to "WWW_OpenURL" and outlook will reuse the open browser. Hope that helps. Regards Phil |

After following the instructions and coming to the particular setting, it was already on WWW_OpenURL ! Damn ! But then I went back and chose "Opennew" instead of "Open" , then "Edit" and I changed the Topic. (This one was set on ...NewWindow) It worked! Altair |
