2004-11-23 08:45:00 | Hi i recently purchased a new DVD Writer. the Samsung TS-H542A Now when i try to burn a regular cd of audio or even data. it does not work. even when i press eject the drive will not open. and i am forced to restart. i dont really want to try burning a dvd because of the waste of the disc if it fails. i have tried burning use Nero and also Media Player but they both do not work. Can any one help out?

2004-11-23 08:50:00 | Does the drive recognise CD's or DVD's when you pop them in? Somewhere in the Nero menu's across the top of the window there is a Recorder or Select recorder tool, have you selected the new drive using that or is the option to do so, greyed out? Murray P

2004-11-23 08:53:00 | I have selected the option to burn cd in nero on the new drive. the funny thing is it worked fine last week when i actually got it. i burnt a few cds. but didnt use it agian until now. it reads regular cds. but at times it just seems to be seeking the data for a while. compared to when i put in a dvd movie it works straight up with not problems

2004-11-23 09:07:00 | So it's showing as active in Nero, have you actually used the Select Recorder tool, Nero could still be looking for your old drive when it comes to CD's rather than DVD's. Are you using window's drivers or the drive manufacturer's? try using what ever you aren't at the moment. Doe the software need to be registered within so many days of installation? or are you using your original software to burn CD's? Murray P

2004-11-23 09:09:00 | How do i change to windows drivers. because in checking the drivers 2 of them are not signed. the rest are microsft drivers. how do i make them all microsoft
help_me (1501) | ||
2004-11-23 09:16:00 | Signed drivers is another MS dodgeball, if they believe people have time to send them drivers to test if they work then they must have a lot of free time on their hands, developers do test the drivers with XP and they do usually work, even if not signed. Try reinstalling the burning software, flashing the DVD writer, reinstalling the drivers, etc. Cheers, Kame

help_me (1501) | ||
2004-11-23 09:26:00 | Updating the firmware is what Kame means by flashing it. It looks like you've done everything expect reinstall the DVD and the software. Are you getting any messages like, the media is copyrighted? Murray P

2004-11-23 09:45:00 | Have you tried using vendor drivers for it? Pretty low on memory aren't you? Physical memory : 255MB (261616kB) Free physical memory: 72MB (74144kB) Memory in use : 71 % I wonder where your page file exists? Seems the problem is as soon as the writing stage begins, the files being cached could be a problem but whether the cached files has errors would be hard to know. I would try reinstalling, and maybe trying to free up a bit more resources. Kame
