1374971 2014-05-14 06:07:00 Hi All,

I have an Apple Imac, older version with Mavericks installed. There is a version of iMovie installed on this computer but looking through the apps store there is a paid version of iMovie there. Do you guys know what the difference would be?
I would like to do some editing in the weekend and want a full working program :) My icon for iMovie is yellow, the one on the apple store is purple?!?!

1374972 2014-05-14 06:43:00 If you already have iMovie installed than you dont have to buy the newer one. It should update the older version to the latest version, go to software update and see if it gives you the iMovie update? ronyville (10611)
1374973 2014-05-14 08:55:00 What version of imovie? plod (107)
1374974 2014-05-14 09:16:00 The version of iMovie that comes with Mavericks has a purple star icon. I'm guessing that the yellow icon that you have was the version that came with your iMac originally.

Both versions are free. Either version will be fine for some creative video editing.

1374975 2014-05-14 09:19:00 Had a quick google around and I can't find any info on whether iMovie '11 (what I assume OP has) will update to 10.0 or not. Try logging into the app store and looking under the update tab. If you can't update iMovie chances are it will have to be purchased separately. From memory it (10.0) is only free with new Macs. icow (15313)

If you click open iMovie and click on the word iMovie in the top menu bar and choose about iMovie it will tell you what version you are running

If that's the case chances are you aren't able to update to the latest version for free.

1374979 2014-05-14 12:05:00 To update to the latest version you will also have to log into the App store with the same apple ID that was originally used on the iMac when iMovie was first put on there. CYaBro (73)
1374980 2014-05-14 20:50:00 Hi guys, the iMovie version is 8.0 and....interesting last post...HOW do I log into APP store with my ID so I get the latest updates????? I had some difficulty installing the software when I first got this Mac as it was second hand, I cant remember IF I made up a new account or not, anyway I can check that? It DOES come up with updates occasionally so I dont understand why iMovie did not get updated? mark1978 (13845)
