1359607 2013-11-13 03:06:00 I would look at something like this.

www.computerlounge.co.nz

Pretty good all round - you could trim a few things and maybe get an SSD in there, I would also go Windows 7 but that's just me.

1359609 2013-11-13 03:18:00 ComputerLounge are great to deal with, and will build you a great quality PC if you don't want to build it yourself. if you'd rather build it yourself, they have a great PC builder on their website. wratterus (105)
1359610 2013-11-13 03:21:00 Cool i think it will be a great learning experience if i build it myself. as i am 16 and this will be my 1st custom built PC beninstine (16565)

1359612 2013-11-13 03:51:00 Would probably go with something like this: nz.pcpartpicker.com (get the GPU from here though: www.playtech.co.nz The cheapest on is $650 but the Gigabyte on as out of stock right now)

Only problem with the R9 290 is that it either runs hot or loud, new drivers have been rolled out to fix this. Still needs to have the fan run around 47% to get the reported performance though. It's a shame non-reference design cards aren't out yet. If this is a massive issue you can always roll the card back to a 770 or 280x. You'll loose some performance though.

1359613 2013-11-13 04:30:00 I second icow's list except the Graphics card for a couple reasons. You don't mention your monitor but assuming you will be gaming on a single screen at 1920 x 1080 or lower the 290 is overkill and I'm not a Fan of being an early adopter of models that just came on the market. The R9 290 is great value for money and you won't find a faster card at the price but you may find you have issues for a while as all the bugs are ironed out. Still if you want the fastest possible card on your budget that is certainly it.

My 7970 while also a great card is still not performing as well as the old GTX580 it replaced several months ago, for that reason I'm an Nvidia supporter and would suggest a cheaper card like www.computerlounge.co.nz which will pretty much max out any game at 1080P or if you want to "future proof" a bit more maybe a www.computerlounge.co.nz . If you prefer the AMD cards www.computerlounge.co.nz will do the job nicely. Any of these 3 is a great option and should be enough for 1080P gaming. Or just go for the 290, hard to imagine you'd be disappointed with having too much power.

Intel CPU's are currently the best choice for gaming, i5 is the sweet spot. Nothing wrong with AMD they are also capable gamers but don't perform quite as well and use more power and generate more heat while doing it. Some people prefer to support the underdog or resent the business practices of intel and that's fair enough but ignoring that as a reason the only thing AMD has going for it is some better budget options and higher "core" counts for multi threaded applications that has no effect in most games
