1359520 2013-11-12 00:40:00 Hi Guys
I used to sell and install accounting software years ago.

Things have changed.

I need to recommend and install some accounting software for my daughters business.

Debtors, Invoicing, stock control, Creditors and GL.

I suppose it comes down to MYOB or Zero.

My main dilemma is to recommend a cloud service or not. (I see MYOB offer both)

I can see advantages and disadvantages.

What is the trend among small business these days ?

1359521 2013-11-12 01:28:00 Id say Xero as they are streets ahead of MYOB. and why the cloud, well you can access if from anywhere on any device. Webdevguy (17166)
1359522 2013-11-12 03:24:00 Agreed, Xero are great. It's not the cheapest, but it's absolutely brilliant! Chilling_Silence (9)
1359523 2013-11-12 05:33:00 Does she need to access it from anywhere or just at work, once you know the answer to that then you can see what's best. Xero is fantastic but costly and if the nets down no work either gary67 (56)
1359524 2013-11-12 05:40:00 MYOB cloud version looks pretty good from first quick look. Don't buy all the Xero hype. Its expensive, and you have to buy another subscription to deal with stock. Have a good look at MYOB. Banklink supply the bank feeds for it. wotz (335)
1359525 2013-11-12 05:48:00 I'd say Xero because A. I use it everyday and it is easy to access, easy to use. B. Cloud. Only con is no built in stock control but there is an addon (also cloud based) which is good but a bit pricey.

MYOB is maybe the cheaper option but the cloud option is still relatively new and, in my opinion, rubbish. I used to flat with two customer service reps and they have endless trouble with corrupting etc. I'm sure it'l get better but for now I wouldn't bother.

What sort of business is it? How much stock and how many items? I have used spreadsheets very effectively to handle inventory for smaller product ranges.

1359526 2013-11-12 06:42:00 My accountant advised against Xero - apparently the IRD can get relatively easy access to what might at the time be incomplete or inaccurately coded records, and then jump to wrong conclusions.

I still keep my cashbook on my laptop. Only I see them until the accountant is ready to validate the accounts.

I use Cashbook Complete from Acclaim software (Howick-based). The interface is pretty dated and ugly but it does the trick...

Ya what? Have you got a reference for this IRD thing? If that's the case then Xero would be up for all sorts of privacy breach charges, not to mention IRD looking like muppets for not looking at a complete set of accounts and jumping to conclusions...

1359528 2013-11-12 06:54:00 Heard some good reports about TurboCASH5 - especially since it's open source & FREE..... BigBadBob (14963)

And he spent 15 years with the IRD. And since when has the IRD worried about looking like Muppets? They harass people on a regular basis - just because they can... johcar (6283)
