They did wardriving so they could give you more accurate location using WiFi only without having to use GPS. Saves battery, locks on faster...

Take off your tin foil hat for a minute mate, you'll see the world is a lot nicer.

So Google at no point while wardriving, did anything like collecting all unencrypted data they wanted?
Is that what you are saying?

1358597 2013-11-08 19:39:00 I'm saying if you're dumb enough to stand on the table at your local mall foodcourt and shout out something at the top of your lungs, then you can't get pissy when people happen to hear it. Chilling_Silence (9)

How is that comparable with Google hacking into any WiFi network it comes across and collecting data?

Because Google didn't hack ****. They logged what was being broadcast, if it was insecure and not password protected then the users were stupid.

Go read about "Promiscuous Mode" and you can come back and thank me later for showing you how silly you're being.

1358604 2013-11-10 23:11:00 .... They logged what was being broadcast, if it was insecure and not password protected then the users were stupid.

...

And yet Joe Average, on many occasion, has been prosecuted for doing the same.

Many PC users are stupid & havnt a clue about wifi security, that doesnt give any company the right to listen in . Leaving the front door unlocked doesnt mean its OK to walk in & have a look around in your house.

Recording a broadcast SID is not quite the same as walking into an open house. More like standing on the street and looking through the window at the furnishings...

To take the analogy further - if you don't want someone looking at your furnishings, pull the damn curtains!!!
