1359679 2013-11-13 21:23:00 I have 2 different ways of looking at it.

1. Climate change/Global warming is uncertain as is our ability to effect it.
2. That doesn't mean it's ok to pollute the planet or not important to minimise our ecological impact, a cleam sustainable planet is a worthy goal regardless of climate change.

As to our C02 Emissions, sure that's true. But 1 volcanic eruption can do more than decades of human pollution and those used to happen a lot more than they do these days. Climate Change has and always will happen, what's under debate is how much of it is our fault not whether or not we can prevent it. Personally I think it's more to do with overpopulation of the planet than anything.

Perhaps the politician mentioned did mean it's due to our planetary orbit and was just relaying something he'd been told and not understod well enough to make clear.

Here's a few thoughts out of left field maybe to consider how we impact the planet.
Citys, dwellings, roads etc prevent water being absorbed into the ground over huge areas - how does that effect the enviroment
All this concrete and asphalt asorbs solar energy all day and releases it at night, cities are noticeably warmer at night than rural areas - does this effect the planet?
The heat output of human dwellings in winter and from the power generation to supply it must add up to quite a lot, is it enough to raise the air temperature and effect these measurements? (not so much with air conditioning which moves heat around rather than generating it).
We cut down vast forests and put farms and cities in their place, how much of the planets surface do we need for our benefit and how much should we leave for the rest of the life on earth?

How much does all this concern me and what am I doing about it? not at all and nothing. I plan to grow old and die before the planet goes all to hell. This is perhaps the real problem. Many things are uncertain, what's not is that if the worlds population continues to grow no amount of "green" initiatives will prevent the disasters that are coming some time in the future. Famine, disease, War, mass extinctions of other species, these things will happen with certainty if something doesn't change.

Doom & Gloom rant ends.

1359680 2013-11-13 21:37:00 Once they get rid of climate change, the weather will be the same every day. Niwa will get the forecast right 1 time in 567 days. R2x1 (4628)
1359681 2013-11-13 22:00:00 Well I wonder if Professor Porritt would be good enough to share with us his views on the matter? B.M. (505)

I don't think my views, if I have any on this topic, will affect climate change in any way.... :)

However I seem to remember certain folk mentioning that planets as far away as Venus can trigger earthquakes on Earth, but I have never heard of planets circulating, that's what you do at a party isn't it ?

I agree with what you said 100%.

I am more concerned about overpopulation, water and food and energy supply.

1359684 2013-11-13 22:57:00 We can no longer believe the PROPAGANDA from either side of the debate

That is it in a nutshell. As far as I can see it is all about (1) Frightening people to accept new taxs, (2) Trying to scare people into voting for so called green parties, (3) Convincing governments they should provide large grants so the whole business can be studied.

It boils down to the aquisition of money by those who think they can con the majority of the population, It would seem that they can and have done that quite successfuly.

None of the above will make the slightest difference to the climate. Why anyone would belive the socalled experts that cannot reliably forcast the weather for next week to be able to forcast 50 years into the future is beyond me.

He raises a valid point!

This^^

Short of a nuclear holocaust there is nothing we can do to this planet that the planet can't fix in a relatively short amount of time, given even more time even the nuclear thing could be sorted.
What is a few hundred years to recover in the life span of a planet.... nothing at all.

Whether humanity lives through our impact is another matter and not relevant to the discussion.
