1359580 2013-11-13 00:40:00 Yeah the speeds are nice, bummer the average data cap for most plans is still ~500MB.

Single YouTube HD music video: 150MB

So you can listen to 3x music videos before you've gotta worry about hitting your cap :P

But considering the screen size, do one even need HD video?

1359581 2013-11-13 00:50:00 How's the GS4 working out? Does the NZ one support 4G?

Absolutely does, and works well. At home I am in a relatively poor 4G coverage area, but still get 25/5 speeds. Went up to the shops where there's good reception and got 98/41. speedtest.net app chews through data at those speeds, lol.

Could be a while before 4G comes to Invercargill but I just checked the compatibility of my GT-18190T. After entering the IEME number it came back as :crying

The S3 Mini doesn't support 4G, so won't work on any providers 4G network.

Hell yes. Even 720p is "acceptable", but you notice the HUGE difference going from 704x480 to 1280x720... The jump from 1280x720 to 1920x1080 not so much though.

This. I managed to use 2.5GB in the course of a week, but to be fair I was tethering to my tablet and it was my only source of internet for that time. :p

Pretty much. Either that or you're sorely limited by what you can do on it. Basic browsing and email checking at most. No app updates, snapchat videos chew through it, no youtube... None of the stuff you actually *want* a 4G connection for.

1359586 2013-11-13 02:37:00 Probably just cause I don't live in an area with 4G, but I still think they should be spending money extending 3G coverage first...bit like FTTH being rolled (and not used), while 10 mins out of town people are luck to get 2mbps on ADSL.

Fiber to the cabinets, ADSL2+ and VDSL, better mobile coverage, IMO these should all be higher on the list than 4G. I can get 10/2mbps on Telecom most of the time. With the way caps are now, I can't think of any need for more than that in the next year or two.

There are still areas with a population density > 5/km^2 that don't have 3g coverage?

1359588 2013-11-13 02:47:00 Well I don't know about that exact amount, but Vodafone and Telecom could really do with a few new towers around Motueka/Tasman. Vodafone especially, their reception is very poor around here.

Also, there is no ADSL2 Cabinet in the Riwaka area, the average sync speed seems to be around 3mbps. Pretty poor.

1359589 2013-11-13 03:12:00 Mrs broke her N4 (She treats it like dirt) so we bought her a HTC One. Turns out she doesn't like the power button location and wants to use her nice shiny blue N4 case, so she's got my precious limited edition White N4 now and I've got her HTC One :pPut Google Play Edition firmware on it too now, should tide me over until my N5 arrives in the country....How's the GS4 working out? Does the NZ one support 4G?Im liking it. Good to have a physical home button I mist say. One of my pet hates with htc.and why I didn't get the one plod (107)
