1358566 2013-11-04 19:30:00 Anyone ever tried to contact Google and find out why NZ is the tech 3rd world in their eyes. I tried after the N4 was released but never got any reply. Guess we don't figure in the scheme of things unless it's advertizing.. paulw (1826)
1358567 2013-11-04 21:00:00 Just not a big enough market to be worth any real effort on their part. We do seem to get ripped of on some types of hardware though, smartphones are one of the most obvious ones, computer hardware is not always more expensive but some things like graphics cards are significantly cheaper overseas also.

I still kick myself for not joining in on Chill's Nexus 4 import last time, I ended up buying an S3 for about $200 more and I'm very happy with it but that's a significant extra cost.

Couldn't we just piggyback off Australia. It seems to suite lots of companies to to make it one market..

A classic case of how governments interfere with trade, your question shouldn't need to be asked.

1358571 2013-11-05 04:07:00 I "kind of" will be... Better to buy from the Aus play store so we get the 821 model of the Nexus 5 which will support NZ's LTE bands when we use them in future.

Otherwise, the US model will do 3G / HSDPA only, but still works just fine :) Pricing differences are negligible.

That reminds me, I have a cousin in Aus I could ask to order one for me and have it shipped to her place !!

1358575 2013-11-05 23:09:00 Extra points question:

Does the Australian Nexus 5 have the NZ 700mHz band built in?

I wouldn't want to buy a 4G phone that only had the 800 band...
