According to this (windows.microsoft.com) article from MS you would be correct PJ.

What this is basically saying is don't use the Metro app for POP3 - use something else. ;)

1374762 2014-05-12 00:50:00 Or just use IMAP. Alex B (15479)
1374763 2014-05-12 00:53:00 POP only doesn't work in the Tiled/metro version on W8.

On any other email client that does have it, it will work fine Eg:Windows Live mail, Outlook, thunderbird etc

If you have a live mail, Outlook.com, Hotmail, Gmail you can use the tiled mail.

1374764 2014-05-12 01:27:00 This sounds like a bit of a worry. So what happens with Google & Hotmail? Surely MS wouldn't makem things that difficult? yes they would, I take that back!!! Do the ISPs support this IMAP? PJ Poppa John (284)
1374765 2014-05-12 01:32:00 Go for Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird, family member did not like the Mail app so got them to download live mail and is much happier Lawrence (2987)
1374766 2014-05-12 01:36:00 Yes Xtra (Yahoo) support IMAP, so does Gmail and Hotmail. Alex B (15479)

Anything that doesn't support IMAP in 2014 IMO is just a waste. Gmail and Outlook.com (Hotmail) are just fine (I think the latter uses EAS, which is better again).

1374768 2014-05-12 04:14:00 Well if you just put your xtra E-mail address and password into windows 8 it automatically sets itself to imap and it works...
Seems Xtra do have imap available but don't support it officially if you look here help.telecom.co.nz

Personally I use live mail because I prefer it to the inbuilt app
