1358890 2013-11-06 01:44:00 At 400,000 people that's about 1/3 of Auckland's population. That's quite a shocking statistic after nearly 14 years.

Yeah right

Many of them will have old PC's and will probably buy an Ipad when the machine dies

People on XP are missing out on so many good features with Windows 7 etc.

Very true, I'd forgotten about the move away from the traditional desktop. I guess people don't need multiple desktop computers at home or in the office when one computer and iPad or Galaxy will be a suitable combo for a replacement.

Many home users, self employed will seriously consider just switching to Mac's. The growing perception out there is that Win8 is as bad as Vista. Many of my (PC) customers ask about switching to MAC.
Doesnt matter if Win8 is that bad or not, the perception is that its bad. That will help push home PC owners to the dark side (Mac)

It wont be the end of the world if people keep using XP. Most users will be 100% Ok . Those still using Win2000 arnt having huge security issues( no more than usual).
You'd be surprised just how many Vista/Win7 PC's have out of date/expired AV & are no longer auto installing Win Updates, so old XP wont be any different.

I'd be curious to know how many of those XP, Windows 2000 users are making any online purchases if any or are they just seniors using the computer at home to communicate with extended family or small 3-4 person home operated business that doesn't see any need or is hesitant to upgrade.

1358896 2013-11-06 04:13:00 My Dad had an XP computer and he died a few years ago.

We just kept the screen and keyboard - who wants a machine with a 40 meg hard drive!

There one off their list!

Guilty on all counts, rofl.

You might not re-call "hand written ledgers'" but this oldie has been through the lot and I still think there is nothing to compare with the beautifull hand written accouting methods of the past.

Wife has W7 on her pc and every time I use it am glad to get back to an easier way of finding things under XP.

Lurking.

Ps. forgot to mention that we both make a lot of purchases online.

lurks.

I sure if our used the bread crumb trails feature in Windows 7 you would learn to love it.

1358899 2013-11-06 05:26:00 Wife is on XP at home still, and will only move on when I need to rebuild her desktop until then she still loves it. My 3D printer runs on an XP desktop and is unlikely to ever be updated as that is all it is used for.

I have Win 8.1 at work and Win 7 at home. The only thing I don't like about Win8 is not being able to disable the tile screen, I use it on the desktop for CAD work and am unlikely to ever need the tile interface. Its frickin useless on a non touch screen
