| 295959 | 2004-11-24 21:24:00 | hi, recently turned on pc and inserted a cd r, resulting in a read error , on trying several other disk that where working fine in other PC's the same error was recorded. we removed the cd drive from the hardware profiles hoping that win 98 would re detect new hardware - nothing is this a sign of a dead cd rom drive?, or a dirty laser? it has been suggested that by tracking down and reinstalling the driver for this particular drive we may fix the problem - previously of course this drive worked without problem. cheers will |

| 295960 | 2004-11-24 21:50:00 | How old is the drive, any activity with the led on the front, what's the exact error message, is the drive still visible in My Computer? Cleaning will be an option once you have eliminated other causes. Any smokers around the computer, dusty environment? Are there any driver or firmware updates. |
