| 295901 | 2004-11-24 09:01:00 | This is a problem on a friends PC. She is running Windows XP Pro. I can send her emails but she can not reply... and no it's not because she doesn't want to reply :o) Up until a week ago all was OK. Any suggestions as to why? Friend has a cat who loves sitting on her keyboard, wondered if Puss may have pressed/disrupted something???? Thank you |

Just that she cant type the e-mails correct? > Up until a week ago all was OK. Any > suggestions as to why? | 295903 | 2004-11-24 09:54:00 | Does she get an error message? Has she tried disabling her AV software? Disabled her firewall? Called her ISP's helpdesk? We need a lot more information. |

| 295904 | 2004-11-24 10:06:00 | First port of call is to check out the email account settings are correct for her ISP SMTP server. If you go to their ISP home page, you should find the details there. eg: smtp.[isp_name].co.nz An incorrect SMTP setting would prevent outgoing emails, yet allow incoming emails. |

Even with all the e-mail scanning disabled and the little nag box telling me it was disabled it was still scanning. Uninstalled it (and that took two goes!). |

| 295910 | 2004-11-24 20:03:00 | I fully agree with JenC. Lets look at the basics first. I suspect that either the cat changed your fiends SMTP settings, or a different ISP is being used, thus making previous settings useless. SMTP.PARADISE.NET.NZ works at home for me, but when i take my wee flaptop-computer to work, i have to change to SMTP.CLEAR.NET.NZ This is because at home i connect with paradise.net.nz, but at work, we use Telstra-Clear, thus a different SMTP setting is needed. Fortunately KMail allows me to have several SMTP settings ready, and choose an alternative to the default setting if needed. (Whew) SMTP only effects the outgoing messages. And for those who need to know what it stands for: Standard Mail Transport Protocol :-) Chris |
