Ask for Pete. I bought from them a few months ago and can recommend them. No, I don't work for them or get any kickbacks - just a suggestion - a good place to compare. Try also http://pbtech.co.nz/

295727 2004-11-26 06:31:00 I think this is a case for letting the fingers do the walking;)

I would go to local crowd, tell them what you want, get a price, then email say Computer Future and get a price from them, keeps them honest.
One hates to be overcharged.Entertaining in the meantime, seeing what they get up to.(your local)

295728 2004-11-26 07:05:00 I would be inclined to speak with a semi-local retailer from your nearest "real" city ;-)

Even postage from Auckland might be cheaper than buying it locally....

295729 2004-11-26 07:23:00 If you're going to be doing some video encoding and general other work on it like multitasking, a bit of gaming, I suggest one of the new Intel LGA775 processors. It's perhaps a bit soon to be jumping on the DDR2, PCI-e, BTX so I wouldn't go for the 915 or 925 chipsets. Perhaps get a motherboard based on the Intel 865PE chipset which still allow you to run a Gb of nice fast DDR RAM and you can buy a medium spec AGP card. E|im (87)
295730 2004-11-26 08:54:00 its most likely be cheaper to get parts from auckland or christchurch and get them shipped down to you, it will be alot cheaper

i just found an old quote i had from a while back, it was for a xp2000 with 512 ram and a gfmx440 graphics card and it was 1800 bucks, that was crazy i thought to my self. its soo expensive its just not funny, you could try dse, they have this xp3000 down there that looks ok, might pay to have a look.

if i could i would buy local, i want to support mu local shops but its too expensive :p

295733 2005-05-05 07:03:00 Theres about $800 markup written into that system (ignoring the screen) I would shop elsewhere.

And BTC suck.

Yes, Online Computers. I find them very good. Compared with Computerland they are not expensive, and immediately helpful. I realise we probably pay more here in the deep south because there isn't a big computing market. Ultimately I'm interested in a fair price and excellent backup.

I'd happily deal with Metla and others here but supporting locals is important for the community.
