295771 2004-11-24 04:44:00 Hi... Bit of too topic here but this is the only site I know where i can get some fast answers... and its full of kiwi's :D

Anyway, I live on a corner of 2 street in a T - intersection, and some real estate agent just came along and put a BIG sign just in front of my fence (on the grass area between the footpath and my fence) at the corner without asking for any permission. I was just wonder if I have any rights to tell him to take it away because i really dont like it.

I dont no if I have the rights, since I dont no if the grass area outside of my fence still counts as my private land or public use. I find it very confusing. Far as i see it I have the rights to, its just like when i mow the grass i include any grass outside my fence. therefore it seems more like private use.

Thanks...and still scratching head....

295772 2004-11-24 04:56:00 You'll probably find that you don't own the grass verge. Your mowing is voluntary. ;-)

However, try the council. The agents haven't got any right to put it on the publicly owned land without permission. If you object, they might not get permission. If they have done it without permission ...

295773 2004-11-24 05:02:00 No idea about your rights,But if anyone put up a sign outside my house i would remove it at my leisure. metla (154)
295774 2004-11-24 05:07:00 the sign is big and is taller than me. dont have any chainsaw either. :D

anyway thanks Graham, I was just using mowing grass as an example how it look like its private use. But comes to think about it its stupid and irrelevent. shouldnt of include that. :)

295775 2004-11-24 05:24:00 Invite some of those kids around [who spray paint walls] to put the real estate agent's rival company on it instead. He'll remove that pretty smartly!

He's got a damn cheek.

295776 2004-11-24 06:13:00 Well, the council controls the piece of dirt, give them a call and let them do their thing; after all you pay the council whether it be by rates or via your rent. Most councils take a fairly dim view of this sort of act, usually the sign is restricted to the immediate area of the property being sold. R2x1 (4628)

R2.

no usually.

Take a picture of the sign, then remove it to your preoperty.

File a formall complaint with the Councill and tell them where the sign is, they may come to collect it.

If/when the agent comes looking for it you have the oppourtunity to remonstrate with him.

You can do none of the above, if the agent is acting for the owner of the land/property you occupy. If you dont own it.

295778 2004-11-24 07:10:00 Most councils with a clue have by-laws that make you responsible for maintaining grass verges outside your property. PaulD (232)
295779 2004-11-24 08:27:00 Agree with all of the above. Its Council land - specifically, road reserve.
The agent has no right to do that but I've never known an agent to be bothered by such details. The sale is everything.

Councils have rules about the size and placement of signs - to stop us looking like America :D

Strictly the sign isn't yours to take away - but what the heck. You've got just as much right as the agent and are likely to get more sympathy from authorities if you remove it.

295780 2004-11-24 09:11:00 I own my house..... but the property being sold is half way down the street. They put the sign at the corner of my house so more ppl can see the damn sign. The main reason that I dont like it there is because some ppl knocks on my door and thinks its my housing on sale. Its annoying! but i will make a complain tomorrow. Blue_face (1148)
