296485 2004-11-25 23:55:00 hi all

i did a "Repair" installation of xp pro and now i have no C: partition any more, but a nice new D: one instead. Everything 'seems' to be running ok BUT i have just tried to install new m/board drivers and xp is throwing up an error about no C: drive and then quits.... has anyone any idea how i can get round this??

296489 2004-11-26 00:37:00 bugger.........ah..........if you have it i have a feelign that partition magic will also modify a drive letter..............or.......I had a similar problem one time so i ghostimaged the drive then wrote it back to the C: partition........where it seemed to become c: quite happily....... drcspy (146)
296490 2004-11-26 00:46:00 ok...

i have 40gb drive with a partition of 10gb for opsys and prog files and a 30gig for data....which i am now in the middle of formatting. It has decided to give itself drive letter "C"!!
Now, is this gonna end up causing probs....with the first partition "D:" and the second one "C:"???
Have cancelled out of the format and changed drive letter from C to G, until i know exactly what i'm gonna *naff*!!! :)

296491 2004-11-26 00:52:00 oh... i do have ghost 2003 installed but have never been quite confident enough to give it a go....so if i read your post right all i need to do is create
a ghost image of my drive, then .......i got a bit lost after that!!!!...when i do the image i presume i need to save it to my 2nd partition????then put it onto my first partition which i rename to "C" somehow???

296492 2004-11-26 00:55:00 You can change the system drive letter easily, by using a registry edit.

This page (support.microsoft.com) at Microsoft.com shows how.

296493 2004-11-26 00:58:00 um...This is getting out of hand,Just do your format or whatever,

Then use the disc managment tool built into XP to change the drive letters.

This is what its designed to do.
