| 296457 | 2004-11-25 21:54:00 | Hi, I recently decided to get my old battle chess 4000 working on my new computer, however I ran into a problem where it can't use expanded memory. I looked in the properties dialog of the .pif file and it said that expanded memory was not available due to the 'third party' software handling it not running, so I tried forcing EMM386 to run by including it in config.sys, this time it said there is no support because in the config.sys I had noems after EMM386; this was not true. Expanded memory worked under windows 98 on my old computer, and I restored (Norton Ghost) a previous and completely seperate install of windows in case it was a fault with the install, but had the same problem. So it seems to be hardware related, any light shed on the situation would be appreciated. | 296462 | 2004-11-27 00:17:00 | I did not press F8 (or ctrl) at boot, since I have multiboot disabled (in MSDOS.sys) however I used DOS Mode for games with Extended and Expanded memory under the windows directory which reboots (right through bios) and gives you a clean appropriate(as described by name) system, EMM386 said somthing about being unable to initalise some frame or somthing. I am running Win98, not XP. Thanks for your replies. |

| 296463 | 2004-11-27 00:23:00 | Well as the MS site says it can only run in DOS not in windows DOS. So, I would say thats why it doesnt work properly. Or quit 98 and go into DOS mode. | Spacemannz (808) | ||
| 296464 | 2004-11-27 00:31:00 | Ah, that is DOS Mode, as I was saying it reboots the computer into dos with a specified config.sys and autoexec.bat, and when I say reboot I don't mean like Exit to MS DOS Shutdown menu command (in which Expanded memory also doesn't work) where you can type exit to restart windows, but where it renames and replaces the config files so that it is actually booting into true DOS, no windows memory management in sight. | SaAB (1292) | ||
