296465 2004-11-25 21:52:00 I am using partition magic to merge two partitions on my primary master disk.
Using the wizard in the program all runs smoothly up to the point of actually merging the partitions.
Then I get a message to the effect that "the action about to be undertaken requires the computer to be restarted in dos, when the computer restarts in dos complete the operation and then reboot".
I am really nervous about doing this as I know nothing about dos and I can't find any support in the help files as to what I am supposed to be doing while it is in dos.
Can someone hold my hand while I do it, please?

296467 2004-11-25 22:07:00 what? even in DOS? OK, how is that for trust? theotherone (1421)
296468 2004-11-25 22:11:00 Well with partitionmagic u also have an option of making DOS disks. So, cant see why it wont work in DOS either. Spacemannz (808)
296469 2004-11-25 22:21:00 it needs to do it in 'dos' because it' cant modify the operating partition while it's running an operating system........trust it it's totally automatic.... drcspy (146)

296471 2004-11-25 22:57:00 When you are running PM from Windows, the OS knows all about the disk.

When there are changes to be made, that's effectively sawing off the branch that the OS is sitting on.

So it's "safer" to reboot to DOS which can sit in the cherry picker while PM uses the chainsaw.

296472 2004-11-25 23:21:00 Thanks for your words of wisdom guys,
I got off the branch and let the program do the sawing. It really did know what it was doing and the computer is up and running again with two HDD and plenty of room for what it is required for. I have also installed a wireless LAN Card and we are now printing and accessing the internet through our two computers from where ever we wish. Cool. Isn't technology great?????
