2004-11-25 12:40:00 | Maybe I should write up instructions but the problem is, it's quite advance, skips the CD install side except for the drivers. Ethernet is the easiest option, they give you a crossover cable, you connect that to your computer's network card and the modem. Throw the CD away, we won't need it. Power on the modem, once the modem is fully on, may take a few seconds/minutes open up a web browser and type http://10.0.0.1 username: admin password: admin (guessing) could try username: admin password: password. From there it's up to you to find where you can find to insert your Username and Password for the connection, if you are with Xtra then it's yourusername.xadsl@xtra.co.nz, connect and that's it. The USB way is similar, but you must install the USB drivers, once installed, turn the modem on and then follow the steps of using the web browser to do the same thing. May need to restart a few times to just kick start it. Hope this helps, and hope it avoids the miserable CD supplied. It seems to be an Xtra specifically made CD that uses only shortcuts, I would suggest getting the .pdf manual off of DLink's website and actually read a real how to set up guide on it. KK

2004-11-25 18:53:00 | It took me 2 days to get jetstream going. Gave up with help line as there was no answer after 1 hr. What I did was put xtra cd in drive go to explorer and read manuals in pdf form. They are modem manufacturers manuals not xtra. My ethernet connection would not work, although there is a port on my computer maybe the card doesnt work. So I went for the usb installation which didnt work either. main thing is to type http:/101.1.1.2 after doing various changes from manuals. Got it going but my computer wont shutdown (W98SE) just hangs and caller id on phone doesnt work. Computer shutdown fine before so I suppose its something to do with modem. Xtra said to try a DSE filter for the caller id problem. In my whole life I have never seen such a horrible set of instructions to self connect jetstream. To those that had it connected quickly it was only because of luck not skill. Thank god xtra dont write instruction manuals for aircraft maintenance there would be aircraft crashing in flames all around the place tedheath

2004-11-25 20:30:00 | Ted, did you set up your TCP/IP in Network & Dialup Connections in Control Panel? or is it called Network Neighbourhood in Win98? That would be for the ethernet connection (Network Adapter as MS call it in device manager). Off Topic. BTW Ted, talking about Xtra writing manual for aircraft maintenance, this may interest you. The British navy and MS has done a deal to use Windows as the Weapons Control OS, and whatever else they do in that little room in the middle of a warship, on their new ships and, I think, upgrades. The OS of choice is Win2k (they obviously don't hold XP in high regard), can you imagine IE causing a BSOD or Windows Update trying to dial out in the middle of a scrap? I can picture the opposition writing viruses furiously right now in anticipation, all they need to do is headhunt a few script kiddies :D

2004-11-25 22:51:00 | Hmmm. "Unable to connect to your modem . Check that the modem is turned on and that all cables are securely plugged in." makes me wonder if the PC is still trying to connect using you old DUN modem. What version of windows do you have? This is what I would do: A. Remove the old modem from the PC - or disable it on Windows. B. Ensure you have only 3 cables connecting to the external Jetstream box. The power cable, the ADSL cable going into the phone socket (splitter) and the ehternet cable OR the USB cable going into the PC. C 1. Set your network adaptor to Obtain an IP Address automatically. Restart your computer if you are asked to do so. 2. There are two ways you can install and configure the DSL-302G: a. Using your web browser (eg. Internet Explorer, Mozilla) b. Using the Ethernet Wizard Installation Utility (DSL302G.EXE) found on the CD Using your Web Browser 1) Connect to the D-Link DSL-302G by either Ethernet cable or USB cable from your PC. If you have not installed the DSL-302G USB driver before, Windows will prompt you for a driver. Simply specify the location of the USB driver found on the CD (/Driver/Windows) and follow the prompts during the installation. 2) Configure the DSL-302G using your web browser (eg. Internet Explorer, Mozzilla). If you are using Ethernet connection, type in http://10.1.1.1/ in the address location. If you are using USB connection, type in http://10.1.1.2/ in the address location. 3) Press Enter and you will get the following prompt. Enter both the User Name and Password as admin (default). It is recommended you change this at some point. 4) Under Quick Configuration, configure your PPPoA account as shown below. Ensure Refresh Rate is set to No Refresh while configuring the following parameters. · VPI 0 · VCI 100 · Security Protocol PAP · Username (As supplied by your ISP. Eg. user.xadsl@xtra.co.nz) · Password (As supplied by your ISP) · Click Save & Reboot Your configuration is now complete. The connection is successful when a green Connected message is shown in the field labelled Connection Status. Once you see this go to the DNS Configuration section in this document.

2004-11-26 01:07:00 | Lol you can just imagine it in the ops room when the ship is under attack by aircraft and submarine maybe a few rounds from an enemy village destroyer (gun) and the ops officer gets a blue screen of death on his windows os computer. tedheath

2004-11-26 11:17:00 | I also hear it's quite a good OS to play battleships on too, you even have a (annoying) paperclip asking whether you want to save your game now, or it seems like you're causing a diversion, you want to use the wizard to create your diversion for you? By the way the Win98 not shutting down is a wide problem, and I am yet to figure it out as I've got a few happy yet unhappy clients due to this and I told them I will get back to them when I find the problem. | 296297 | 2004-12-10 03:01:00 | Sorry to drag this thread up but a friend has just gone and had a Jetstream modem installed and the computer can't browse the internet or send/receive emails . It won't ping anywhere either . I have just been around there to see what I can do without any success as I am not familiar with the D-Link ADSL modem . The modem connection appears to be running OK - the modem lights are all merrily flashing away, the icon in the tasktray says it is connected and in the modem's settings it says "Connected" for one setting then underneath it says "Connecting . . . ", so I am not sure about that aspect . Can't remember all the details for that now so I cannot be more specific . In Network Connections Properties for the connection I tried entering IP addresses of various types for it as well as Xtra's and Actrix's DNS server settings but none made any difference . Everything else is as Spout has recommended except that I don't know what is set for No . 4 . One thing I found interesting is that typing in . 1 . 1 . 1/ in a browser will not open the modem's configuration properties whereas http://10 . 1 . 1 . 2/" target="_blank">10 . 1 . 1 . 1/ in a browser will not open the modem's configuration properties whereas http: will although the lights show it to be an ethernet connection, not USB . Turning off the Windows firewall made no difference and the computer currently has no other firewall installed . How do I make this thing browse the internet? Should I leave the IP address and DNS settings to be obtained automatically or should I enter something? If so, what numbers? Computer is running Win XP with SP2 .

2004-12-10 03:30:00 | Susan Running XP PRO, SP2 etc. I went through a similar routine. It did not work on the ethernet connection. All modem lights functioned. I the tried the USB software which was on the CD and it still did not work, though lights again functioned. After uninstalling and reinstalling the USB software without success, I noticed a "DSL 302G Admin (ETH)" icon had been placed on my desktop. Double clicked on that and the connection worked on the ethernet connection.

2004-12-10 04:01:00 | Ah, thanks for that, Scouse. I saw that icon and double clicked it but didn't test whether it could browse afterwards though. Tell me, do you have a Virtual Private Network (WAN miniport (PPTP)) in Network Connections? I don't have one on my computer and have never seen one before, but this particular computer has it. Just wondering if it is related to their Jetstream connection or not.
