| 296994 | 2004-11-27 20:34:00 | Hi. I would like to play DVD's from my computer's DVD player, on the TV. What sort of cable do I need? My vid card is just a Triplex GeForce FX-5200, which has a cable that I assume is for this purpose - it connects to the TV-out socket on the card, and I assume the plug on the other end goes into the Video-in socket on the TV. However the cable is only a wee thing; not long enough for me to try out. So I'm guessing that a longer one will do the trick? Also, the card has what's called a DVI Connector socket - what's that for? Thanks for any advice. |

Its best to use the short cable that connects to the TV Out socket, as the socket wiring on video cards does not always conform to standard S-Video pin-outs. Sometimes the short cable is actually an "adaptor" to convert S-Video to RCA. Using a normal S-Video cable may not work. DVI is Digital Video Interface, which as above is used for high end displays such as some better LCD's. I use it here and you actually can see the difference. Video signals produced by the PC are digital, then they get converted to analog by the video card and sent to the monitor via the VGA port. With DVI they are digital all the way, no conversion (and loss of quality) is needed. |
