| 296971 | 2004-11-27 18:41:00 | I need help! The Gentoo install appeared to go well up to the stage Chroot into the new environment, but when I tried to ënv-update: source /etc/profile. It all turned to custard. So, I left it to get onto this forum & I can't boot back into windows, get error message "Grub (something) error17". Obviously something to do with the Grub I was already using being screwed by the attempt to install Gentoo. Can I please have help here, to get back into windows and probably to get rid of that existing Grub (or what's left of it). I'm doing this with my laptop. |

| 296972 | 2004-11-27 19:07:00 | I fixed it, sort of. Did a re-install with Libranet and that got Grub working, I had a momentary panic attack there, whew. Only thing is I wiped out about 2 hours work on Gentoo; drat, drat drat. |

| 296973 | 2004-11-27 19:08:00 | That would be: env-update; source /etc/profile AKA: env-update && source /etc/profile Its a semi-colon... Reboot and give it another whirl. Either way - You're going to need to chroot into an OS to get something going, I'd highly recommend you carry on with Gentoo. Dont forget to set the root password, and use gpm... Hit Ctrl + Alt + F2 and bring up the install-handbook there - It helps :-) Cheers Chill. |
