296947 2004-11-27 08:11:00 Oh help guys! :_| I've had enough sleepless nights~

Just got a new beast Intel P4 3.0 LGA 775, with Asustek P5GD1-VM mobo and Legend 512Mb Hynix-chip ram. 80Gb Hard drive, onboard graphics (for now...), etc.

My problem is this installing drivers for all the onboard things. The network (LAN) is going no problems. However, to install the sound, I have to install Win XP SP1. So, I did. Sound works ok. Yay! But then, the fault comes out on all my USB 2.0 ports. They all give out power (because my USB Hub's LED light comes on). But my mouse doesn't go on! None of my USB devices get detected! Only the USB Hub's LED light is giving the signal of it still half alive.

The USB works without SP1! When I try to install the USB drivers that came with my motherboard CD -it says

Windows XP USB2.0 Driver Installation
====================================

Please using Windows XP SP1 (Service Pack 1) or later versions, you DO NOT need to install this driver, because they already contain software support for USB 2.0.

So obviously, I can't install the USB Drivers [or they think I dont need to] if I have SP1. But without SP1 I cant have sound. AHHHHHHHHH!!!

Anyone have any clue to get both going? Any help appreciated.

296948 2004-11-27 08:16:00 Check control panel / system/hardware/device manager / universal serial bus controllers. If anything has a ? delete it then reboot. XP SHOULD redetect the USB. Spacemannz (808)
296949 2004-11-27 08:19:00 Oops forgot to say yup, that happened on my mobo too. Once SP1 is installed it SHOULD pick up USB 2. Also, the sound drivers SHOULD be on the mobo CD. So, you can install them, after XP is installed. Spacemannz (808)
296950 2004-11-27 08:22:00 No, it's all being reported as being fully functioning.

Thanks,

Ok, so perhaps that's the problem. USB 2 is not being picked up after installing SP1

296956 2004-11-27 08:35:00 Usually with most mobos that have it you're meant to install XP, that ide inf file then the service pack 1 or 2. After Sp1 is installed, reboot, check device manager for any ?? If any delete them then reboot. That should fix the USB and the sound drivers should be on the mobo cd too. Spacemannz (808)
