296846 2004-11-27 04:39:00 Hi there.

I want to burn <some> of my good old vinyl to CD. Anybody done this??
I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a soundcard that can handle input from an external source (i.e. pre-amp)...I'm guessing maybe I have to look for soundblaster Audigy 2 or 4 - but hoping perhaps someone can recommend a device that worked well for them.

Thanks in advance for your time.

296847 2004-11-27 05:02:00 Any soundcard will work, if it has line in and u have a decent cable from the record player / program to record to then save whatever to the hdd, then cd.

You DONT have to overkill with the soundcard.

is the link to rip vinyl software I recommend. It is very simple to use and leaves the snap crackles and pops as they were.

Good luck

296849 2004-11-27 10:21:00 I used the record deck from my stereo, a pre-amp from Jaycar (about $40 I think) a standard soundblaster live, spare rca's from the car stereo & groove mechanic software. It leaves all the original noises too. Facility is there for crackle, hiss, rumble ect removal if you want to use it. phil.b (4456)
296850 2004-11-27 11:10:00 plug turntable into sound inputs on back of computer (check if turntable has its own pre-amp installed-a lot easier if it has)-use Audiograbber software (freeware)-very easy to use, sit back, tell all friends and family you may be some time, and go for it !!!!

cheers

to add to the sound advice (exscuse the pun) a small download
called depopper from www.download.com will help you clear the snaps and crackles, that can come with vinyl or tape recordings.

be prepared for a bit of experimentation, to get the best results.

Microsofts media player makes a pretty good cd.

if you would like to to search the archives here, there is a lot of great advice on this subject.

good luck,
