296732 2004-11-26 19:42:00 i have this major problem with the site about:blank coming up as my home page every time i load up internet explorer. i've tried changing the homapage address, blocking the site, increasing the security setting to the max, but it seems to always overide all of my commands - the next time i load up internet explorer the site loads up. it has also got into windows help so when i click on help all i see is that site with the help programs UI frame, also its taken over my user accounts protocol, the windows media info section - when u click to get album info all i get is that site and like 3 or 4 pop-ups. i've tried using several programs that remove spyware and also registry mechanic but it doesnt seem to work. i kno i can remove it if i reformat & reinstall windows but i'm hoping someone can help me out to avoid that.

thnx

296735 2004-11-26 20:00:00 The most likely culprit is an adware/browser hijack program - in particular, CoolWebSearch.

Try downloading CWShredder and running that

If you use an alternative browser such as Opera or Firefox you will be less likely to have these sort of problems which plague IE

296738 2004-11-26 20:17:00 I've never had a homepage hijack using Opera but I have with IE and it was this CoolWebSeearch and the recommended program CWShredder worked a treat. Picks up on the registry entires.

Dun't know anything about Registry Mechanic so can't say but just adding my support for Jim B's suggestions. :D
