296579 2004-11-26 06:38:00 Have just bought my new PC. However, a slight problem -they gave me the wrong brand of ram. I had asked for Transcend Jetram 512mb 400DDR, but instead, was given the shop's 'default' Legend Hynix Chip Lifetime Warranty 512Mb 400DDR.

Again, they have tried convincing me that Legend is in fact better -I told them they were the only ones who I've heard such thing, and to my suprise, they said.. well they're all wrong. Extremely disappointed. I'm convinced with metla's logic of Legend being a more profitable part -besides, I did pay more for the Transcend! (They told me it was $7 difference, now only $1!)

They have, however, offered to change, but this would mean losing my Ram for about a week! I'm not too worried about the money -performace is required!

Should I stay with the Legend Hynix Chip ram, or go with the Transcend Jetram. [sorry, no other ram are in consideration]

cheers,

296580 2004-11-26 06:47:00 If it works it wouldnt matter, but if u paid for something and got something else i would take it back and get the right ram for the price u paid for it. Spacemannz (808)
296581 2004-11-26 06:48:00 Well....You paid they money, they owe you what you wanted,I would be spitting blood.

Buckets of it.

Doesn't matter in the slightest what their opinion of the better ram is, its not for them, its for you.

Now....why would you lose your ram for a week?

Ram isn't expensive, and can be sourced by the next day.....The swap should be immediate, next day at the latest, and no down to for you at all.You shouldn't have to go without ram for anything longer then the time it takes them to yank the side off and install it.

296582 2004-11-26 07:02:00 Before I got my computer today, they had being running it on 'intensive' testing, using their own little software (I have no idea what the process is). They tell me, many Transcends have failed the memory testing.. etc.

So my question now is, how do you know what is faulty ram? How do you know it's not 'stable' when its just new!?!

If I did swap, it would be going under their testing once again...

296584 2004-11-26 07:07:00 Out of interest where did you buy the RAM from? Did the people serving you happen to be asian? If i was you i'd be back in the shop tomorrow yelling and screaming until they gave you what you ordered and paid for. Pete O'Neil (250)

Haha, there was only one Asian out of about 10 staff . I'd assume hes the owner though .

Ok, how about pretend I haven't paid anything or got my PC, what ram would you go to? Whats your reason for not having the other one . [metla, I already know your response, thanks]

296586 2004-11-26 07:28:00 I wouldnt care what kind of DDR400 I got . As long as it works and it works in dual channel .

I've got PQI ram in these . Maybe not the best, but it works, the system picks up dual channel . its fast . End of story .

296587 2004-11-26 07:33:00 So if you had specified a specific brand of component in a custom build you would have no issue with someone swapping it out for their own reasons? metla (154)
296588 2004-11-26 07:38:00 Well since I do my own custom builds that wouldnt be a prob. The shop wouldnt be putting it together, I would be.

So, would get whatever kind of ram beforehand.
