2004-11-26 05:52:00 | Last weekend I changed my ISP from ClearNet to Xtra (to start with Jetstream). I find now when I try to run LiveUpDate in Norton Antivirus 2003, I get the message: "LU1841 LiveUpdate could not connect to your Internet Service Provider. Verify dial-up information is correct." :( My OS is Windows 2000 Professional. I have made all the necessary changes to connect via Xtra, get my emails via Xtra, and am using Xtra to access the Internet. Now....What do I need to do to get Norton running correctly? ?:| Cheers R.M.

2004-11-26 06:01:00 | Try this Error: "LU1841: Connection to ISP failed. LiveUpdate could not connect to your Internet Service Provider. Verify your dial-up information is correct." Situation: When you run LiveUpdate and you click Next on the "Welcome to LiveUpdate" dialog box, you see the message "Error: LU1841: Connection to ISP failed. LiveUpdate could not connect to your Internet Service Provider. Verify your dial-up information is correct." Solution: The first step to solve this problem is to make sure that LiveUpdate is using the correct Internet connection. Unless your provider uses "Winpoet," LiveUpdate usually uses the Windows default Internet connection settings. Dial-up connection If you use a dial-up connection to your ISP, follow these steps to make sure that your settings are correct: Start Internet Explorer. (Do this even if you do not normally use Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet. 1. Make sure that you can connect to Web sites, for example, go to: www.symantec.com 2. Do one of the following: o If you can connect to Web sites using Internet Explorer, go on to step 3. o If you cannot connect to Web sites using Internet Explorer, do not continue. Because LiveUpdate uses certain Windows settings from Internet Explorer, you must fix this first. Please contact your ISP for help in correcting the settings. 3. Do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows: o In Windows 98/Me/2000, click the Start button, then click Settings, and then click Control Panel. o In Windows XP, click the Start button and then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click Symantec LiveUpdate. Note: If you are using Windows XP and you do not see the Symantec LiveUpdate icon, click "Switch to classic view." 5. In the LiveUpdate Configuration panel, click the ISP tab. 6. Select Internet Options in the Control Panel. 7. Click OK. Close Symantec LiveUpdate and the Control Panel. If the previous instructions did not fix the problem If you still see the LU1841 error after following the steps in the previous section, the Settings.LiveUpdate files may be damaged. If you delete them, they will be replaced by clean copies. This process should only take a few minutes. Follow the instructions in the document Deleting the Settings.LiveUpdate files. When you finish with the instructions in that document, run LiveUpdate again. If you still see the message, you can send your computer system information to Symantec. (See the Technical Information section.) This may help us find another solution.

2004-11-26 06:18:00 | Thank you Spacemannz - that was very clear and easily followed! I am running Norton at the moment (I had gone to the Synmantec site and manually downloaded), so I will try LiveUpDate, probably tomorrow. Cheers R.M. :)

2004-11-26 06:19:00 | It's not using a dialup connection any more, it's using ADSL via Jetstream. What sort of modem/router are you using, how does is connect, LAN or USB? If ethernet (LAN, Network Adapter) you'l need to find a setting for Live Update something like: Direct Connection...., or LAN or ADSL/Cable or Network but not Dialup or Modem. Sorry thats not more specific, but I don't use Norton's nor do I know how you connect to the ADSL service. A rummage through your Norton's Help files or search of Symantic's website should turn something up.

2004-11-26 06:28:00 | This is also on the symantec site for broadband AOL for Broadband, Verizon Broadband, or other Internet Service Provider (ISP) using "Winpoet" Follow the instructions for your ISP. * AOL for Broadband If you use AOL for broadband, this has been fixed in LiveUpdate 2. 0 and later. Use the following instructions to get the latest version of LiveUpdate (no charge). To get the current version of LiveUpdate 1. Go to the LiveUpdate files download page. 2. In the updates and patches table, there are two files that you can use to install LiveUpdate: o lusetup-lt.exe Most home users should install this version of LiveUpdate. o lusetup.exe This is full version of LiveUpdate. It includes enterprise-management features that may be used on a managed corporate network. Most users of Symantec enterprise products should install this version of LiveUpdate. 3. Click either lusetup-lt.exe or lusetup.exe. 4. Save the file to the Windows desktop. 5. After the download has finished, double-click the lusetup-lt.exe or lusetup.exe icon on the desktop to install LiveUpdate. 6. After the installation has finished, run LiveUpdate to download available updates. Restart the computer if you are asked to do so. You may have to run LiveUpdate more than once to get all available updates. * All other broadband ISPs that use Winpoet o If you are not sure whether your broadband Internet connection uses Winpoet, contact your ISP. o If your ISP does use WinPoet , you must connect to the Internet before you run LiveUpdate. The easiest way to do this is to start your Web browser and go to a Web site such as http://www.symantec.com/ Hide details for Broadband or DSL connection and your ISP does not use "Winpoet" (Most ISPs do not) Broadband or DSL connection and your ISP does not use "Winpoet" (Most ISPs do not) Follow these steps if you have a high-speed (always on) connection, such as cable or DSL, and your ISP does not use Winpoet. | 296608 | 2004-11-26 07:12:00 | Ahh - I'm sorry :( I didn't make that quite clear. I haven't yet started Jetstream (that's not until about the 8th Dec). I am still on Dial-up, but with Xtra, not ClearNet as I was previously. And thank you Spacemannz - I'll keep that info for when I do get started with Jetstream! Cheers R.M.
