I have a feeling that trainee brain surgeons aren't handled the hacksaw, Black and Decker drill, and pliers on their first day at medical school. Same applies to learning an OS. It's a good idea to use a stable kernel compiled by people who know what they are doing. When you know how to drive it, it's time to do more ambitious things. I am amazed that MS get away with selling computers as not needing any brain cells to drive their OS. Imagine how their help lines would explode if they allowed users access to their kernel code, and encouraged them to compile it. |
