2004-11-27 05:00:00 | Yeah, friends of mine have bought from them with positive experiences. Which is exactly why they must be destroyed. Just kidding. I find that some tend to look not to the absolute cheapest but to somewhere more in between. Cheers George

2004-11-27 05:15:00 | The thing that always gets me is how on retailer's sites, many don't advertise GST inclusive prices - which is a pain. For that reason, I like ascent, who also do free delivery.

2004-11-28 09:01:00 | i get used to prices excluding gst and postage , so when i go to sites that do include it i get the impression that they are more expensive - but still cheaper then any of the shops here | noone (22) | |
2004-11-28 09:24:00 | There have been severall attempts to clean up the GST issue in the Advertising Game. But many Unscuplious Retailers, still hide behind the "Wholesaler Argument". Some of the Retailers on the web, hiding behind this, are overdue for a spanking from trade and industry. Every day is more and more "Caveat Emptor" D.

2004-11-28 09:38:00 | yeah i do seem to realise the gst but only at the checkout - but normally sites do tell you how they price there products ( although it is all in very small font ) | noone (22) | |
2004-11-28 20:21:00 | If I was in the pc retail business I'd be competing on more of a service level rather than on component prices. I'd aim for the domestic/soho markets, sell kit at virtually cost, but charge a reasonable whack for installation, network management, troubleshooting etc. It shouldn't take long before this could sustain a one/two man band | Greg S (201) | |
2004-11-29 00:34:00 | Selling at virtually cost - you'll be bust within a month. Don't forget you need to pay ACC, gst, prov tax, insurance, public liability, rent, phones, power, couriers, petrol, toilet paper, biscuits, blah blah... I add a margin of at least 20%, but usually more & quite often 50%. My customers pay me to think for them - even if it's just a winmodem - because they don't care or don't wanna know - just get it going!

Probably that's why over 40% startup small business in NZ fail within 2 years - just no marketing nouse and ill defined sales strategy, along with non-existant business models - too much reliance on the thinking that if they put in the hours things'll work out - NZ'ers are too frightened to be innovative or at least different enough in over-burdened markets |
