297011 2004-11-28 10:38:00 IIRC it _is_ on JSG Realm..... So yeah, 4.5mbps ;-)

Download:
www.lxnay.scarlet.nl

This is about 85MB - A tiny download you can have done in 45 mins easy!

Download it and begin install :-)
Then just follow the online documentation

297012 2004-11-28 11:05:00 Yep, downloading now.

It's 110MB - how come so small?

Anyway, 56 mins to go... Might have to wait till the morning :(. Damn school.

Sadly, I can't dind it anywhere on JSG - only have Debian there it seems. But anyway we're at 6% already so no complaints. I assume it is an ISO inside that .TAR.BZ2? If so I'll burn it to CD tomorrow and install on a Cel 333 I have waiting for it :).

Thanks for the link

Cheers George

297013 2004-11-28 11:14:00 Linux: Rute User's Tutorial (www.icon.co.za) is some dowloadable reading material for you George.

Must get back in to it myself, have had a couple of false starts. There's everything you need to know in there somewhere.

297015 2004-11-28 21:55:00 Because - Once you've done a Stage 1, Stage2, or Stage3 Gentoo Installation - You'll have a Bash Prompt, Kernel, Compiler, and one or two other things....

Its then up to you to emerge kde, gnome, openbox, xfce4 etc as you see fit.

297016 2004-11-29 05:02:00 For some sad, sad reason, Firefox didn't want to resume the download. Server didn't support it I suppose?

Anyway, what a waste of 30 mins. Downloading again now @ 2% so far.

Reading all the guides right now.

I'll probably be back for more help once I get it installed.

Cheers George

297017 2004-11-29 05:46:00 Firefox doesnt support resume does it?

I'd use getright from Windows, or D4x from Linux.

Give us a yell if you get stuck.

You should be able to use WinZip to extract the ISO. I wouldnt know, as Ive only used Linux before with it ;-)

Cheers

Chill.

297018 2004-11-29 07:06:00 Yes, I have it downloaded, used WinRar to extract to a .ISO.

Going to try with Virtual PC now :).

297019 2004-11-29 07:54:00 Bah - It'll be slow as!

You wanna run it as a normal OS so you can get to playing with CFLAGS etc later on :-)

Speed........

297020 2004-11-29 08:13:00 Mm, but this is all going on in my bedroom, on my PC. I don't want to haul up another PC into my room, plus a screen/KB/mouse - hell, I don't even have enough room for them.

When I actually install it properly it will of course be on a real PC, but right now I'm just experimenting. It runs fine though...

Anyway, any suggestions on whether to do Stage 1, 2, or 3? I have the downloads of them all ready, but which to choose.

Do I need the stages before it? IE: If I chose Stage 3 do I need 1 & 2 as well?

Also, would my Celeron D come under x86 or Pentium 4? For Stage 1, x86 is the only option but Stage 2 & 3 you can choose.

Cheers George
