297215 2004-11-28 07:00:00 I have just had a new harddrive installed following a fatal problem. My internet connection has now dropped to 37.2Kbs - it used to be 52Kbs. The repairer said he couldn't find a faster driver. My PC Company computer came with a modem instruction book which identified it as a "Ambient HaM Data Fax Voice" [PCI V.90 Fax/Modem] for which the driver is supposed to be "MD5628".
When I look at the modem properties it's described as "Intel V92 HaM DataFaxVoice" & the driver as "4.47.2.0]. The maximum port speed is shown as 115200. Can anyone help me to regain the earlier speed this modem had?
Cheers
Nigel

i have the same modem as you do just if you wanna know :p

297217 2004-11-28 07:21:00 You ring 120 (telecom faults) and ask them to test your line. If u only have 1 line, you'll have to hang up so they can test it. They usually ring u back. Spacemannz (808)
297218 2004-11-28 07:58:00 m8 there are several versions of your model MD5628 if u can get the proper name u'll find all the models at this address + u havent told ur OS www.modem-drivers.com fryup (3762)
297219 2004-11-28 07:58:00 Go into Device Manager and uninstall your modem.
Then go to control panel/install new hardware. Then manualy install your modem.
If the correct modem is not there do a web search for your modem. Download the driver and install it.
I have an ambient modem here and windows keeps identifying iy as an IBM.
I have replaced it.

297220 2004-11-28 10:35:00 I would do the following first (before uninstalling your modem)

> do a web search for your modem. Download the driver

Then

> Go into Device Manager and uninstall your modem.
> Then go to control panel/install new hardware.

allow a redetect. If that fails then
install the driver you downloaded earlier

sorry for editing your post Jack

297221 2004-11-28 16:07:00 Beama is quite correc of course.
I think you may have trouble in your search for a driver too. I did a quick Google on the driver number and all I found were several others looking for the same driver.

297222 2004-11-28 16:40:00 Go to www.Intel.com and then to "drivers and support". You will find a driver there with the same number. It may work for you.
Intel took over Ambient.

downloadfinder.intel.com

Or you can copy the above.
I am assuming you are useing windows xp.
