297451 2004-11-30 08:31:00 its sad that a 1.6GHz pentium M lappie would eat my 2.6GHz celery laptop for breakfast :) HadO (796)
297452 2004-11-30 08:32:00 must be on drugs then noone (22)
297453 2004-11-30 23:56:00 So Intel CPUs are vegetarians? Graham L (2)
297454 2004-12-01 02:19:00 you got to remember, when saying "this CPU is better than that CPU becuase of this Benchmark" isnt always true. CPU's are constantly being benchmarked with different software, and with different hardware setup.

According to this article a series of benchmarks puts a celeron d at 2.8 at roughly on par with it"

BUT making this sort of statement about a AMD 2800+ being the equivalent to a Celeron D at 2.8Ghz deserves a smack upside the face.

and the earlier statement about the Intel's being easy to install. THATS PROOF OF CRAP TECHNOLOGY. If something of that technology is easy to install, then its not worth using.

297455 2004-12-01 04:15:00 Certain CPU's are better for certain types of applications.

If I were doing desktop applications such as basic word-processing, a Celeron 2Ghz in some cases would be better than a P4 2Ghz.....

Ultimate CPU Benchmarking is impossible and the user needs to review what they will be using it for and then make the decision.

Chill.

297456 2004-12-01 06:16:00 Just to be picky...

How is a Celeron better at word processing then a P4?

297457 2004-12-01 06:17:00 Better for the pocket. george12 (7)
297458 2004-12-01 07:10:00 Geez I cant remember but it basically has something to do with the bus size etc, and because of the lower speed at which data from desktop applications like that is pumped out, it'll be waiting marginally longer for something.... I cant remember, it was a while back.

In "extreme benchmarking" for desktop use, such as resizing a huge pic which is processor intensive.... That'll be better with a P4 as my understanding.

However if its not maxing out the CPU, then a Celeron would be better due to certain aspects.

Thats what a review I read a while back said... Im thinking perhaps GF or Graham L could enlighten us?
