2004-11-30 04:38:00 | I know, I was amazed by the figures. But it's true. Which is why, although I was not a month ago when I bought my PC, I am now a chooser of AMD. | george12 (7) | |
2004-11-30 05:16:00 | >Therefore, I conclude that AMD are better by a massive proportion.< George You may want to look at real benchmarks instead of artificial ones here www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/sempron.html and you may find that your gutless celeron aint that gutless.

2004-11-30 05:34:00 | Benchmark artificial or not, my Celerons run like crap, and AMDs run nicely. After all, the best benchmark (for personal use) is how fast it feels, and how long it takes to get jobs done. I know that AMD gets stuff done quicker, and that AMD pc's FEEL faster - to me and almost everyone I know too. But there is no denying how wonderfully cheap Celerons are. Not as cheap as a Sempron of course but...

Yada yada yada. Its just that feeling its fast is very subjective. I have an amd 300 running win 95 and office 97 with 128 meg of ram that i frequently use for word processing at work simply because its wicked fast and responsive, way more so than our run of the mill win 2000 duron 1300's running 256 meg of ram. But feeling fast on a low overhead os and word processor doesn't make for a raptor number crunching machine in other areas. | the highlander (245) | ||
2004-11-30 05:55:00 | Forgot to add >AMD pc's FEEL faster - to me and almost everyone I know too.< Most younger guys feel that way about rice burners too but as all old cunning men know there is no substitute for cubic inches.

2004-11-30 05:58:00 | There is, of course, the what makes the user tick factor which can not be measured by any benchmark. To me, it's inexplicable what some people will choose but, to them I don't count unless they specifically seek my opinion (yeah right, more fool them). Personally it's AMD for me (at the mo) but to another it's going to be Intel or to some admin/CIO somewhere, he/she is dreaming of a budget to get their hands on one of the latest IBM server cpu's that are spanking houseloads of Itaniums in enterprise app's or, maybe they're actually dreaming of Itaniums, they do sell some you know :O
