Hopefully one of these vivo cards will allow me to overclock to XT PE speeds. They use the same core and memory. It's just a matter of enabling the four disabled pipelines and overclocking the memory and core. $1060 performance for $806.

I suspect you would need a faster CPU than a XP 2800+ in order not to bottleneck such a card?

297170 2004-11-30 01:18:00 Yes I am aware of the unlocking that one can do to achieve the performance of the X800 XT PE, but frankly, I want it more for the braggin rights.

As far as bottlenecking goes, obviously I will not get full performance from said card, but I doubt that it will be because of my processor. My hard drives are fragged to hell, I can't defrag them (no space) and my Windows install is cluttered. These are all, however, fixable - what is not so easily fixable is the cheap and minuscule RAM that I use...

Then again, a 3200 is a nice rip-off to be buying about this time of year...

297171 2004-11-30 03:21:00 Damnit!

I ordered a HIS Excalibur Radeon X800 Pro 256MB DDR IceQ, VIVO and a package arrived at lunchtime. Good delivery time. ;)

Inside was a standard HIS Excalibur Radeon X800 Pro. No VIVO. :(

I can tell it's not a VIVO card because it doesn't have the yellow connector on the back end of the card as seen in the second picture here:

www.tweaknews.net

It was apparently a typo on the webpage! So I've got two options after talking with the guy, I can keep it and get a $20 discount. Or I can return it.

What should I do? If I returned it, I've pretty much exhausted all the options for Vivos in my price range, as there aren't any HIS, or Gigabyte Vivos around. I could possibly get a Gecube one...

297172 2004-11-30 03:51:00 I thought that the yellow connector on the back of the card was only on cards being sold in europe? It just happens that all the original reviews samples were european cards, the yellow connector has nothing to do with VIVO.

Perhaps you should have a look in the box and see if it came with input and ouput cables. Or look on the card for the video decoder chip.

297173 2004-11-30 03:54:00 Is VIVO essential for you, or would it just be 'cool' to have. I say stick with the one you have. I have never needed to use the vivo on my card. fus1_n (3818)

Really? This is interesting . I will upload some pics of the cables, I really don't know what is what . Unfortunately the damn heatsink is so big I'll have to get my screwdriver out to see what memory chips are on the card .

That's the cables it came with.

Ok this is what I can see:

Top left: S-Video out -> 3 x RCA (not sure what they are for)
Top centre: Some other plug similiar to S-Video but doesn't have the black pin thing in it. It converts to a solid yellow end with hole in it.
Top right: VGA -> DVI
Bottom left: RCA -> RCA with really long metal prongs coming out the end of each plug
Bottom right: S-Video -> S-Video

That's what I can see. I've got no idea what a few of the cables are used for. Does this mean it is a VIVO?
E|im (87)
297176 2004-11-30 05:14:00 Nope it's definitely a normal X800 Pro.

The memory chips are: K4J55323QF-GC20 not GC16 like the VIVOs/XTs/XT PEs

But you are right about there not being a yellow connector on the back Pete. I looked in the manual where it talks about VIVO, there is a cable which goes into the S-Video port, and branches off into 4 plugs.

www.tweaknews.net

See the black and yellow cable up the top? That's the VIVO cable.

297177 2004-11-30 06:43:00 The easiest hint as to whether something has vivo or not is infact the S-Video lookalike connector. If it has the same amount of pins as a S-Video connector, then no VIVO. Otherwise, there is a high likelihood.

Although if it has more pins than normal S-Video it is still likely that it doesn't have VIVO, I for one have one card like that.
